The French Fears
-Wanted the Germans to be crippled
-Wanted reparation payments
-Wanted a defines position against Germany
The Maginot Line
-Built Fortifications between French/German border
-Leads them to a false sense of security
"We could hardly dream of building a kind of Great Wall of France, which would in any case be far too costly. Instead we have foreseen powerful but flexible means of organizing defense, based on the dual principle of taking full advantage of the terrain and establishing a continuous line of fire everywhere."
—André Maginot, 10 December 1929
Summary
The Maginot Line was an attempt to keep the Germans form invading France again by having a strong defence. Its downfall was the fact that they did not extend it through an area of forest and when the Germans invaded they went straight through the forest.
